MINNEAPOLIS, April17 ---Jack Brewer, former University of Minnesota Golden Gopher and current 5-year NFL veteran, will unveil The Brewer Foundation on Saturday April, 22 2006, at Martini Blu in Minneapolis. The event begins at 7:00 pm and a $20 donation at the door is appreciated. The Foundation's primary goal is to provide opportunities for underprivileged youth to pursue their dreams in business.
The event read like a who's who list with keynote guests that include:Katrina Campins (from the Apprentice), Seth Berger (Founder of And1), Glen Mason (University of Minnesota Head Coach), Randy Moss (Oakland Raiders), Amani Toomer (New York Giants), Michael Bennet (New Orleans Saints), Bobby Engram (Seattle Seahawks), Rueben Droughns (Cleveland Browns), Gary Brackett (Indianapolis Colts), Marcus Banks (Minnesota Timberwolves)and Marion Barber III (Dallas Cowboys), as well as numerous professional athletes, and prominent business and education professionals from around the country.
Coming from a rural town in Texas, Brewer's dream of pursuing a higher education depended solely on an athletic scholarship. Brewer was the first in his family fortunate enough to receive a college education and took full advantage of this opportunity. Four years later he graduated from the University of Minnesota, with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Sports Management. While attending the University of Minnesota, Brewer gained his first opportunity to explore his entrepreneurial side and founded the first of his four companies.
As he continues his active status as an NFL football player, the thriving businessman currently runs and operates The Brewer Group, a real estate and mortgage company. Jack says "most athletes after their career in the NFL they simply retire. For me, however, this is just simply a start and The Brewer Group is a start for many entreprenural endeavors."
Brewer has been so blessed and always had a dream to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged youth who may not have the opportunity in sports that he has. Brewer believes that students that display a passion for education should have an equal chance at attending college, regardless of their financial situation or athletic abilities. He is determined to give every underprivileged youth that exhibits a drive to succeed the resources necessary to achieve their educational and professional goals.
Brewer has drawn upon his network to team up with a diverse group of local distinguished individuals that will advise the organization. This group is headed up by some of the most well-known educational individuals to well-known businessmen including prominent real estate developer Vik Uppal. Uppal is known for his pioneering and revolutionizing the real estate industry. He is excited about the launch of the foundation "the fact is all of us were given the opportunity and inspiredby someone which has allowed us to be where we are today what Jack is doing is not only going to give unprivelgded minorities youth inspiration but also a vehicle to achieve their dreams."
Through the NFL entrepreneurship program, Brewer was inspired by his advanced education at the Harvard School of Business and the Wharton School. He decided it is essential for him to create opportunities like the ones he has been awarded, for youth that lack the support they need to attain their dreams.
The Brewer Foundation was founded in addition to Brewer's existing community development programs. The Foundation's goal is to provide education-driven minorities in underprivileged situations with the financial assistance to attend top schools around the country through a sustainable scholarship program. Each student who receives a scholarship from The Brewer Foundation will portray a passion, drive and determination to pursue a career in business.
